Rules [not mine though]

Post  Admin on Wed Jul 09, 2008 5:34 am

When I set up a place people can come to and use, there needs to be some rules... generally nothing more than please behave,
if you're doing something wrong we'll let you know... maybe a few direct "Please Dont's" on other issues.

Rules should be quick and easy to read or otherwise, as with the legal crap we get when we use new software, we'll just click the
agree button and tootle off without reading anything.

I recently visited a page where I thought I might find a few old friends from the IRC days.

They have a novel system there, where you must read all their terms, guidelines, rules etc, or be tagged a "Purple Dinosaur".
Now I don't know what that means exactly, "Newbie" perhaps, I do know the dino they speak of is Barney... but after skimming
the rules, and they do go on and on, I came up with nothing.

I cheated a bit and used "find" but found nothing that way either.

I get the impression that they tell you to look, you do, you find nothing and so you tell them that you've
read the rules and come up dino-less and they go "that's right" and bob's you're uncle, no more Barney.

Frankly I can't be bothered, I won't create hoops for others to jump through like a french poodle, and I won't do it myself,
there's a line which gets drawn, and this is it with me.

Though I am happy to be on my best behaviour as always.

I left a note telling my mates where they could find me,
and I will keep going there to chat till someone bans me for whatever reason.

But my account can rename in Barneys name till the cows come home.

Funny you should say that, cause that's where I registered. Wink

Oh I dunno, I think there's some nice people there, they seem nice so far.
I'd like to keep going there and chatting.

I've been away from the were community a very long time, and it seems
they don't do IRC anymore [who does?]

* OK, I'm sure someone does.

This may surprise you, but Jakkal runs a werewolf shop in Secondlife called "The Werehouse" and
she made the avatar I use... as seen in the Posse pic above.

She also made the big werewolf I use.

When we first joined, there were these horribly thin black werewolf avatars which weren't solid enough
for me, you know how I picture myself, a bit of muscle.

I use the avatar above mostly because it's sort of casual, and approachable, where the big were is a
bit "full on" for some people.

What's funny is that Jakkal hates it when people want to attach "bits" [genitals] to her weres, and they
make it worse by sending her IMs like "How do I attach a penis to my werewolf avatar" Wink
Newbies are really funny sometimes.

I had a penis on this wolf, but what happens is that a penis can't be covered by pants, everything pokes
through, balls and all... and because I look after ABC, which is a fairly responsible TV network here, then
I couldn't wear them... I almost never bother with bits... if I go onto an island, I see myself from behind
so it's not until someone says "Wolfie, you have your bits on" and *sigh* embarrassing.

Well late last night I got an e-mailfrom the werelist admin telling me that I was still a "purple dinosaur" and had to do something about it or my account would be cancelled.

I did it for them, I wrote my last post there, wished everyone well, and walked off into the distance.

I have no grudges or anything, it's their forum, they can do as they like. *shrugs*

I honestly can't say werelist is bad.

I have a theory that you respect people when they invite you into their home, and that's ok...
I just don't like ploughing through a lot of data to find some tiny matter of little importance.

What if everytime we loaded in software that we actually had to read every word of the agreement?

I tend to feel that it can't be legal to do that... make someone click a box to say they've read the
rules, but they haven't... who does?

Would any court in the world say that because you've ticked a little box, then you have read all
the rules, when you haven't?

No jury would agree with that, we've all skipped past the yadda yadda so we can enjoy our software.
